Speakers:

Joe Sacco is one of the world’s premier comic book artists, known for his reportage in books such as Palestine (2001), Safe Area Gorazde (2000), and Footnotes in Gaza (2009).

Eyal Weizman is an architect, and the director of the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London, and of the ERC funded research project Forensic Architecture. Since 2007 he is a founding member of the architectural collective DAAR in Beit Sahour/Palestine. His books include Hollow Land (2007) and A Civilian Occupation (2003).

W.J.T. Mitchell is Professor of English and Art History at the University of Chicago, and associated with the emergent fields of visual culture and iconology. His books include Picture Theory (1994), What Do Pictures Want? (2005), and Cloning Terror (2010).

Kjersti G. Berg is a PhD candidate at the Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion at the University of Bergen, where she’s currently completing her dissertation about the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and Palestinian refugee camps.

Henrik Gustafsson is a postdoctoral fellow at the research center Nomadikon: New Ecologies of the Image at the University of Bergen, where he’s working on a book tentatively titled Ruin and Resurrection: the Afterlife of Landscape.

Øyvind Vågnes is a postdoctoral fellow at the research center Nomadikon: New Ecologies of the Image at the University of Bergen, and the author of several articles on comics, including a piece on Joe Sacco in the most recent issue of Afterimage.
