Postdoctoral Fellow


Henrik Gustafsson earned his doctorate from Cinema Studies at Stockholm University in the spring of 2007. He is the author of Out of Site: Landscape and Cultural Reflexivity in New Hollywood Cinema 1969-1974 (VDM 2008), an interdisciplinary study probing the overlapping trails of film, fine arts, and cultural memory. During his postdoctoral fellowship with Nomadikon he has edited two anthologies, both together with Asbjørn Grønstad: Cinema and Agamben: Ethics, Biopolitics and the Moving Image (Bloomsbury, 2014), for which he also wrote the concluding chapter, and Ethics and Images of Pain (Routledge 2012). His recent publications appear in Journal of Visual Culture (April 2013), A Companion to Film Noir (Wiley-Blackwell, 2013), and The Films of Claire Denis: Intimacy on the Border (I.B. Tauris 2013). In the fall of 2013, Gustafsson begins a position with the research project 'Border Culture' at the Department of Culture and Literature, University of Tromsø. He is currently at work on a new monograph entitled Crime Scenery: The Art of War and the Afterlife of Landscape.
